Clear objectives and ambitious, achievable goals

In April 2014, Deutsche Post DHL Group introduced its Strategy 2020, positioning itself as “The Postal Service for Germany and The Logistics Provider for the World”. The strategy is simple, though never simplistic. It is based on three pillars: Focus, Connect and Grow.

Focus: on what has been successful

Deutsche Post DHL Group will continue to focus on logistics as the core business, which should generate more than 85% of total revenues by 2020. The divisions are well-positioned to take advantage of world growth markets and reach this goal. The post business in Germany will be further secured, while services for the e-commerce market will continue to expand. Accordingly, the former MAIL division has been renamed, “Post-eCommerce-Parcel”.

The “Focus” pillar reconfirms Deutsche Post DHL Group’s commitments made in Strategy 2015 to be a Provider, Employer and Investment of Choice, as well as to contribute to a better world with the Living Responsibility program.

The Group is firmly convinced that it can achieve industry-leading margins by realizing the Focus goals.

Connect: throughout the Group

The “Connect” pillar helps fully tap the company's potential through the internal exchange of expertise, experience and talent. It addresses many areas where the Group must establish close-knit collaboration in order to improve service quality and ensure excellence.

One significant step in the process involves the introduction of a company-wide certification program with specialist training for all employees, delivering the skills and knowledge needed for success on the job.

Divisions collaborating more closely is beneficial for the company and its customers, such as by strengthening best-practice sharing and interoperability measures among business units. By “connecting”, Deutsche Post DHL Group can achieve quality leadership in the industry and consistently deliver excellent services.

Grow: in new market segments

The pillar “Grow” outlines the strategy for growth markets and segments, specifically emerging markets and e-commerce. The e-commerce strategy has already proven successful in the German parcel business.

The Group aims to export its knowledge to other regions and create opportunities in domestic parcel delivery and e-commerce services in select markets, with a focus on emerging markets.

Deutsche Post DHL Group is one of the best positioned logistics companies in emerging markets, and Strategy 2020 will help further expand the Group’s footprint in these economies – with 30% of revenues stemming from emerging markets by 2020. Sustainable above-market growth can be achieved by following this strategy.
